Possibility of women getting pregnant during menstruation high

In Season 10, Episode 12 of the award-winning Vodafone Healthline Series, Medical Practitioners discussed the possibility of women conceiving during menstruation.

Doctors Aba Folson and Kwekuma Yalley both admitted that women could get pregnant during menstruation but were quick to add that it is rare. They advised women to study their body cycle to understand the seasons when conception could take place.

“If you understand how your body cycle works, then you will understand when you are likely to get pregnant and when you are not,” said Dr Yalley

“Knowing the cycle helps. Read more and understand your body so that when you are ovulating, you know,” Dr Folson added.

A segment of the show highlighted stories of various beneficiaries of Vodafone Ghana, including Elisha Afavi, a young boy who had to eat through a tube in his side after accidentally consuming a poisonous substance. All the families of the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Vodafone Foundation for their help.

Dr Evans A. Akpakli, a urologist, was also on the show to discuss diets and lifestyle choices that may lead to kidney stones.

“It is because of the foods we eat. Adding excess salt to your diet will lead to the formation of kidney stones. Those who also do not drink enough water are also likely to encounter kidney stones. Also, those who eat a lot of animal protein could be predisposed to kidney stones,” he explained.

This Week in Medicine centered on how a prosthetic corneal surgery was used to restore vision in patients with severe end-stage corneal blindness.
