Possible Managers To Replace Mourinho At United

After news broke of the sacking of José Mourinho’s by Manchester United,  we take a look at the top contenders to succeed the Portuguese manager to handle affairs of the CLUB.

Michael Carrick 11/10

Michael Carrick has been handed the role on an interim basis until the end of the season, but there are plenty of other managers that might be considered for the role on a permanent basis. We take a look at some of the bookies’ favourites according to Sky Bet and their credentials to fill the vacancy.

The new interim boss will have a mandate of trying to drag Man United into the EPL’s top four and if he does that, who’s to say he might not be considered for the permanent role? There is much work to be done, however, if that goal is to be achieved.

Zinedine Zidane 2/1

Zizou excelled at Real Madrid, winning the Champions League an unprecedented three times in a row. There’s no doubt that Zidane knows how to perform at a big club that demands success. His appointment would cause a huge buzz at Old Trafford because it would deliver the attacking football that has been missing since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Laurent Blanc 9/1

Laurent Blanc has top-level management experience with PSG and France, and it’s understood that he would be able to get the best out of underperforming star players Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial. He’s also understood to know the club inside out after his three years there as a player in the early 2000s.

Antonio Conte 12/1

Antonio Conte made an immediate impact at Chelsea and if Ed Woodward wants a quick fix solution ten Conte might be his man. But with all that happened with Mourinho, the club is unlikely to go that route. One advantage in Conte’s favour is that his systems and tactics got the best out of Paul Pogba at Juventus, making the Frenchman one of the most in-demand midfielders in world football.

Mauricio Pochettino 14/1

The Tottenham boss has excelled in North London, earning admirers around the world for his high-energy pressing style that has made Tottenham hard to beat. Although he’s further down the candidates’ list according to the bookies, ESPN FC has him as United’s favoured choice according to their sources. Pochettino’s attacking brand of football would likely be welcomed by United fans.

It remains to be seen who takes the job on a permanent basis from next season. What we do know is that Michael Carrick has a big job on his hands, starting with a Christmas period including games against Cardiff, Huddersfield United.
