Premier League Winter Window Ends

The Premier League recorded its quietest winter transfer deadline day on Monday, with only seven deals completed across the league.

There was little activity throughout the day, and no new signing was officially announced before the 19:00 GMT deadline. The first confirmed deal came four minutes after the window closed, at 19:04 GMT, when Crystal Palace announced the signing of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves in a deal worth up to £48 million.

Premier League rules allow clubs to complete signings up to two hours after the deadline, provided they submit a deal sheet before 19:00 GMT. This gives clubs extra time to finish the necessary paperwork.

Five more deals were confirmed after the deadline. Sunderland signed Ecuador winger Nilson Angulo from Anderlecht in a deal worth £17.5 million. Wolves, who sold Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace, brought in midfielder Angel Gomes from Marseille on loan. They also replaced Strand Larsen by signing striker Adam Armstrong from Southampton for £7 million.

These late deals pushed total Premier League spending during the winter transfer window to over £390 million.

Liverpool was so active on deadline day, agreeing a deal to sign defender Jeremy Jacquet from French side Rennes. However, the £60 million transfer will only be completed in the summer, with the player remaining at Rennes for the rest of the season.

Crystal Palace dominated much of the discussion on deadline day. Alongside the arrival of Strand Larsen, the club also called off a planned move for striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to AC Milan after problems were found during his medical examination.

Aside from these developments, the day lacked major drama. None of the traditional top-six clubs completed any signings before the window closed.

One notable move involved a Premier League departure. Former England midfielder Kalvin Phillips joined Championship side Sheffield United on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the season. This comes four years after City signed him from Leeds United for £45 million.

Other late deals included Nottingham Forest signing defender Luca Netz from Borussia Monchengladbach, Chelsea winger Tyrique George joining Everton on loan, and both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal announcing new academy signings.
