Prioritize our members in COVID-19 vaccination – Hotels Association

The Ghana Hotels Association is appealing to the government to consider its members as a priority when the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines commences.

The association believes that persons within the hospitality business chain should be prioritized for the vaccine.

President of the Association, Dr. Edward Ackah-Nyamike in an interview said: “We believe that accommodation is also an essential service looking at the services that are offered and then the fact that it is distributed across the country. There is a hotel in every corner of the country, so we believe that the hotel industry is strategically positioned to be one of the first organizations to receive the vaccine so that our staff will be protected and also protected staff also means protected client in a way, and it is also an inverse identifiable group that will make it easier.”

Ghana became the first recipient of COVID-19 vaccine doses distributed by COVAX, a global vaccine sharing initiative.

The country on the 24th of February 2021, took delivery of 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India.

The vaccines will be deployed to designated health facilities from March 2, 2021.

Dr. Edward Ackah-Nyamike believes the arrival of the vaccines will help in revamping business soon.

“Our business is driven by movement of people and the COVID-19 pandemic actually restricted the movement of people to some huge extent so a vaccine that is supposed to deal with the virus so that we can all get back to our normal lifestyle then it is good news for the industry, and we are hoping that it will be dispatched with the urgency that it requires.”
