Promote Arts and Tourism In Your Writings for Dev’t – ATWAG tells Journalists

Arts Writers have been asked to purchase and use the various artifacts as a way of promoting tourism in the country. Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah, National Organizer, Arts and Tourism Writers Association of Ghana made the call in an address at the launch of Eastern Region Media Excellence Awards (ERMEA) 2019.

He said the artifacts industry had over the years, become an avenue for creating employment for the rural people by supporting those skillful in the sector to contribute to the development of the tourism industry. By so doing it had helped to curb the increasing incidence of rural urban migration, he said.

According to him, instead of journalists and Arts writers in the Eastern Region and other areas taking delight in hyping ‘unnecessary’ things, more interest should be attached to the Arts Sector.

”Eastern Region is endowed with many natural resources and tourist sites which has the potential of attracting tourists and investors from all over the world to boost our revenue and create employment for our people.

”Boti falls, Wli Falls, Aburi gardens, land mark rocks, new discoveries, among others. Even if we have museums and old palaces we can make money by marketing them as tourist sites.

”Instead of taking delight in hyping issues that rather create tension in the country and paint us bad to the outside world, we need to re-think, reflect on our losses and potential gains.” he indicated.

Touching on the better prospects of journalists for future development, Mr Maxwell Kudekor, President of the Eastern Region Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) said, there’s a lot of work to do.

He concluded by advising the media who have gathered there to practice professionalism which is associated with competence, training, perseverance and a body of knowledge with standards of evaluation and improvement.

EventPlus, Organizers of Eastern Region Media Excellence Awards has set today, June 7, 2019 as the open date for the filing of nominations to June 30 2019 where the filing of nominations ends.

According to Organizers, the award scheme aims to promote excellence in media, with the objective of ensuring that the media remains one of Eastern Region and for that matter Ghana’s foremost media choices.
