Recruitment: We Don’t Discriminate – Police

The Northern regional police command has denied allegations of discrimination against prospective police recruits in the region.

There is an ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise to enroll prospective applicants into the police service. The exercise commenced on Monday, 29 January 2018, in Tamale at the Jubilee Park and will end on Saturday before a final exam will be taken on Sunday.

There have however been some complaints of the police allegedly discriminating against Dagomba’s hoping to be enrolled into the service.

Following this complaint, the chief of Tamale, Dakpema Naa Alhassan Dawuni visited the recruitment venue on Wednesday, 31 January 2018 to witness the process.

Speaking to the media, the spokesperson for the Tamale Chief, Chief Mohammed Hafiz Dema Naa said “There are a lot of complaints coming to the palace and so Dakpema Naa Alhassan Dawuni has taken it upon himself to visit the recruitment venue to ascertain the authenticity of these allegations”.

Northern regional police public relations officer, ASP Yussif Tanko expressed gratitude to the Chief of Tamale for taking time off his schedule to visit them at the recruitment venue but dispelled claims of discrimination in the processes.

“Applicants are screened and recruited based on merit,” Mr Tanko said.
