Regal Film Festival to Announce Final Nominees on November 13

The Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) has completed the first stage of screening for its maiden 2025 edition, with 64 films shortlisted out of 121 submissions received from 21 countries across Africa and beyond.

According to the organisers, the final list of nominees will be announced on 13th November 2025, ahead of the main festival and awards ceremony, which will be held from 10th to 13th December 2025 in Accra, Ghana.

The initial screening took place between 20th and 28th October 2025 and covered different film genres and categories. Entries were judged based on originality, storytelling, technical quality, creativity, and cultural relevance. The process was supervised by an Academy of Screeners made up of film scholars, critics, and professionals from Ghana and other parts of Africa.

Currently, the Regal Film Festival Jury Team is handling the final screening phase, which will determine the official nominees for each category.

Executive Director Selassie Ibrahim expressed gratitude to all filmmakers who submitted their works, describing the quality and diversity of the entries as outstanding.

Head of Jury Dr Jim Awindor also praised the growing participation and creativity in African filmmaking.

“We are thrilled by the growing participation and the remarkable storytelling talent emerging from Africa and the Diaspora. The 64 films selected represent some of the finest creative voices redefining African cinema today,” he said.

The Academy and Jury are made up of respected professionals in filmmaking, academia, and film criticism across Africa. The first edition has attracted a wide range of films that highlight the depth and diversity of global cinema.

The Regal Film Festival and Awards aims to celebrate excellence in African filmmaking, provide a platform for creative collaboration, and promote industry networking. The awards ceremony will take place on 13th December 2025 at the Palms Convention Centre in Accra.
