Renowned Ghanaian Poet Atukwei Okai dead

A renowned Ghanaian poet, cultural activist and academic and author, Prof. Atukwei Okai has died in Accra, at age 77. This was in a statement issued by Professor Akilakpa Sawyer on behalf of the family and copied to thepublisheronline.com on Friday, July 13, 2018. The statement said he, died at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital on Friday following a short illness.

Death has become a part of human living, it strikes persons of all level anyday, anytime and as well at any point. Until his death, Prof. Atukwei Okai was the Secretary-General of the Pan African Writers Association of Ghana.

Prof Atukwei Okai won a great number of honours both locally and internationally during his illustrious career, and was in June 2007, awarded the national award of Member of the Order of the Volta.

His early work was published under the name John Okai.
