Richard Commey earns split draw on latest bout

Ghanaian BoxerRichard Commey has earned a split draw decision in his Junior Welterweight debut fight against Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza.

The 10 round entertaining bout lived up to the billing as the main feature fight on the night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Commey had a strong start to the fight and caught Pedraza multiple times with stinging right hand shots and left hook combinations that caused blood to flow from Pedraza’s nose.

Puerto Rican Pedraza, delivered big shots to Commey’s body that slowed down the Ghanaian and allowed two time champion Pedraza to end the bout on a high note.

However, the judges scored the fight 97-93 for Pedraza, 96-96 for Commey and 95-95 leading to a split draw decision to the disappointment of Commey.

Commey suffered a cut above his left eye from Round Six while Pedraza had significant swelling under both eyes after taking heavy punishment in the earlier rounds.

The Co-feature fight on the busy night had heavyweight Jared “The Real Big Baby Anderson” deliver a knockout win over Miljan Rovacanin in the second round.

2015 African Games Gold medalist Efe Ajagba delivered his highlight knockout win in the second round against Jozsef Darmos also in the heavyweight division.
