Schools within Keta Municipality receive desks from assembly

The Keta Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region has provided a total of 421 desks to nine basic and senior high schools within the municipality.

This gesture which had support from the district development fund was to assuage the plight of pupils and students who sometimes are compelled to squeeze themselves into seats made for just two pupils with other students also sitting on cement blocks.

The headmaster of the Keta Business School, one of the beneficiary schools, Etse Sake-Kwawu told Citi News that although his school has a desk deficit of 1,400, the 100 desks will make a great difference.

He said it will ameliorate the challenge as the school readies itself to host JHS pupils who are getting ready for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

“We have a major challenge with desks. We have a deficit of 1,400 but these 100 desks is a really good intervention especially as we are getting ready to host the next batch of BECE Students. The desks are bad, they are squeaky and wobbly but the MCE has promised us of another batch of desks soon so we are hopeful,” Mr. Sake-Kwawu noted.

On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta, George Effah, indicated that education forms a key component of his leadership hence his unwavering support to the sector.

“I know these desks are not enough but I want you to make the best use of it while we mobilize money to provide you more. Education is a key interest for me and I will do all within my capacity to see education soar in Keta Municipality.” Mr. Effah promised.
