SG Ghana donates GH¢330k medical equipment to Korle Bu Cardiothoracic Centre

Societe Generale (SG) Ghana has donated medical equipment worth GH¢330,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) to support its lifesaving work.

The donation, which includes an Electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, an automatic cardiac defibrillator, and four patient monitors, is expected to boost the facility’s capacity to diagnose, monitor, and treat patients with critical heart conditions.

Deputy Managing Director of Support at SG Ghana, Kwame Abbey, said the bank’s commitment to healthcare spans over two decades, noting its continuous support for the Ghana Heart Foundation.

Previous contributions include GH¢20,000 in 2011, GH¢40,000 in 2013, GH¢33,000 in 2015, and GH¢160,000 in 2019.

“Our responsibility goes beyond providing financial services; we are equally committed to the well-being of the communities we serve,” Mr Abbey said. “Good health enables individuals to contribute meaningfully to the economy, their families, and society at large. Today’s gesture reaffirms our dedication to making a life-changing impact in Ghana’s health sector.”

He added that corporate social responsibility is embedded in the bank’s identity, with a focus on economic, social, environmental, and societal impact. He also commended the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Centre for their dedication.

Receiving the equipment, management of the National Cardiothoracic Centre expressed deep appreciation to SG Ghana, describing the gesture as an investment in “health, hope, and humanity.”

“These devices will strengthen our ability to monitor, diagnose, and respond rapidly to patients in critical condition,” management said. They explained that the defibrillator restores normal heart rhythms during emergencies, the ECG machine provides accurate heart function readings, and the patient monitors track vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels during treatment and recovery.

The Centre also acknowledged its long-standing partnership with SG Ghana, noting shared values of teamwork, responsibility, and commitment to community well-being.

“Your example is commendable. We hope other corporate bodies will be inspired to join forces with us to enhance care for patients with heart conditions,” the statement added.

SG Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the health sector, stressing that a stronger, healthier community benefits all.

The National Cardiothoracic Centre remains Ghana’s leading heart treatment facility, providing specialised care, research, and advocacy for patients with various cardiac conditions.
