Shame! Teacher Defiles Girl, 12, During Private Classes

A 32-year-old French language teacher, Hondana Mensah, has been thrown behind bars for 12 solid years by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court, after he traded his noble professional calling for an abominable crime — defiling his 12-year-old pupil right inside her own home during a private class session.

The convict, who thought he could use examination threats to keep his young victim quiet, met his match in court when the presiding judge, Mr. Kwasi Appiatse Abaidoo, found him guilty of defilement under Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended by Act 554.

According to the prosecution team led by Chief Inspector Godsway Kromoah, the tragedy began in Combine, a suburb of Akosombo in the Eastern Region. The victim’s mother, a 43-year-old businesswoman seeking academic excellence for her daughter who is in Class Six, engaged Mensah as a home tutor. For four whole years, Mensah was welcomed into the family residence to teach the young girl French.

However, on July 8, 2026, at about 5:00 pm, during their private class session at the home, Mensah took advantage of the moment and had sexual intercourse with the young pupil.

To cover his tracks, the teacher resorted to manipulation and fear tactics. He warned his victim never to mention the incident to anyone, claiming that the revelation would bring unbearable shame upon her. To seal her silence, Mensah told her that if she dared to whisper a word about the abuse, he would personally fail her in French during the upcoming end-of-term examinations.

Despite the teacher’s intimidation, the truth found its way out three days later. On July 11, 2026, the observant mother noticed an unusual, painful walk in her daughter’s step. Smelling a rat, the mother questioned the child until the traumatised girl opened up about the horrific ordeal at the hands of her French teacher.

The mother rushed straight to the police station. Officers issued a medical report form, and a subsequent examination at a government hospital confirmed findings completely consistent with sexual assault.

Mensah was arrested on July 12, 2026. However, he denied the allegations in his cautioned statement.

Following investigations, he was charged with defilement and prosecuted before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court. The court sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment, describing the punishment as a deterrent against sexual offences involving children and other vulnerable persons.
