Six held over death of tricycle rider

Police in Ghana’s Upper East Region have arrested six people in connection with the killing of a tricycle operator who reportedly failed to hand over sales proceeds to the vehicle’s owner.

The suspect’s, aged between 21 and 40, are currently in custody and assisting detectives with their inquiries, according to a police statement issued on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Akolbila Blessing, is believed to have been attacked on 27 August at Dulugu-Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District. Investigators say he was set upon by the six individuals after he was unable to account for the required daily earnings from the tricycle, which belonged to one of the suspects.

The following day, Mr Blessing was discovered unconscious in his room and rushed to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga. Medical staff pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival.

Authorities have named those arrested as Avandiba Atubiga Kante, 26; Atua Atombire Mpika, 40; Amale Nyaaba Nicholas, 30; Atua Ayinbotima, 22; Atuah Nsobila Prosper, 21; and Ayine Albert Sunday, 39.

In a public advisory, the regional police command urged citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to channel grievances through proper legal channels rather than resorting to violence.

The force has assured the public that its investigation is ongoing and that anyone found responsible for the death will face prosecution.
