Smooth Visa Access for Black Star Fans – Ablakwa

Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has promised Ghanaian football fans improved travel arrangements ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Black Stars sealed qualification.

Ghana booked their spot at the global showpiece with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday, October 12, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The result marked the country’s fifth World Cup appearance since making its debut in 2006.

In a post on X on Monday, October 13, Mr. Ablakwa congratulated the team and announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will work to make travel easier for fans. He said the government will use Ghana’s strong diplomatic ties with the host countries, the United States, Canada, and Mexico, to secure special visa quotas for supporters.

“Congratulations to the Black Stars on Ghana’s emphatic 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. Ghanaians can be fully assured that the Foreign Ministry under my leadership shall leverage our improved cordial diplomatic relations with the United States, Canada, and Mexico to guarantee appreciable visa quotas for our globally acclaimed football fans. GHANA, here we come!” he posted.

The Black Stars’ qualification has reignited national pride and excitement, as fans look forward to seeing the team once again represent the nation on football’s biggest stage.

Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Ghanaian football fans for their unmatched passion and energy following the team’s qualification. In a video message shared after the game, he commended both the players and their supporters for their contribution to world football.

“Congratulations to the Black Stars on reaching the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time in history. Your fans will bring colours, style and passion to the greatest FIFA World Cup ever in 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the United States,” he said.

Infantino acknowledged how Ghana’s supporters have always added vibrancy and rhythm to the World Cup atmosphere, making them one of the most celebrated fan bases in global football.

He also expressed hope that the team could repeat, or even surpass, their impressive 2010 World Cup performance in South Africa, where Ghana reached the quarter-finals and came close to becoming the first African country to reach the semi-finals.

“We expect that your team will establish more global stars to follow in the footsteps of the famous team that made the quarterfinals of the tournament in South Africa in 2010,” Infantino added.

He concluded by saying, “But for now, enjoy this special moment, and we cannot wait to see who the Black Stars will face when we have the final tournament draw on the 5th of December.”
