Soldiers Disinfect Kumasi Over COVID-19

Scores of uniformed military men have won the hearts of residents of Kumasi, in the Ashanti region after they were spotted in their smart uniforms disinfecting the various markets in the region.

The disinfection exercise, which was done through spraying, was a brainchild of the government to avert the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Personnel of Zoomlion Ghana were supposed to lead in the massive disinfection exercise on Friday morning.

Perhaps, as part of their social responsibilities, some uniformed soldiers joined in fumigating the markets.

Some of the soldiers were especially seen disinfecting the Kejetia Market, drawing applause from bystanders. The Kumasi Central Market, Asafo Market, Bantama Market, just to mention a few, benefitted from the exercise.

Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Kumasi Mayor, said all markets in the city and beyond were fumigated on Friday morning.

According to him, the exercise is an indication that government has the welfare of the people at heart.

Osei-Assibey said government wants to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, hence the fumigation exercise.

He thanked Kumasi residents for making the exercise successful, urging government to sustain its good works.

Meanwhile, Kumasi became a ghost town on Friday as all shops at Adum were closed to pave way for the disinfection exercise.
