Speaker Slaps Gays…No Way For You In Ghana

The leadership of Parliament is united against any attempt for the introduction of any legislation that is aimed at legalising same sex rights in Ghana.

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Michael Aaron Oquaye, Majority leader, Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu have all, on a single platform, declared their hatred to the subject of same sex rights.

The leadership of Parliament made known their position on the subject matter, when the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament yesterday.

The Speaker, Prof Oquaye emphasized the need for all citizens to take a stand against homosexuality which is against the nation’s cultural beliefs and values. “Homosexuality is not our culture’’ Prof Oquaye said.

He called for a unity of purpose in the fight against the act which he said was against natural norms whiles stating that nobody can cause Parliament to make laws in support of homosexuality.

He vouched for both leaders of the House whom he said are committed and serious Christians and Muslims respectively and are also against the subject matter of same sex rights.

Speaker Oquaye who is also a Minister of the Gospel commended the church for its continued interventionist prayers said prayer was a necessary requirement whiles urging religious leaders to feel very free to admonish public office holders where possible.

According to him all must be humble enough to accept criticism.

Majority leader, Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a member of the Assemblies of God.

Church urged the need for all to strive in order to keep religion at the center of governance.

He observed that it was not for nothing that the guardians of justice, the Judiciary has placed premium on the morality of individuals against academic qualification as the eligibility criteria for the practice of the profession.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs stated that Ghana’s traditions and culture has been the bedrock of the upbringing of her people hence anything alien to that cannot be accepted.

He also cautioned against religious fundamentalism, where religion is carried out by the strict interpretation and understanding of the scriptures.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, on his part stated that Islam conceived of homosexuality as unacceptable and therefore his side is unable to accept any legislation that questions the desire of God.

The Tamale South Member of Parliament urged the religious to continue to lead national consciousness on national issues through their public pronouncements.

He also urged the Christian leadership against mandatory obligations by some institutions that compel Muslims students to practice Christianity and other faith against their will.

The Minority leader condemns the nakedness exhibited in the dressing styles of some women nowadays.

He noted that some women without recourse to values just expose their bodies in public which he said was unacceptable and urged religious leaders to speak up.

The former Minister for Employment and Labour Relations also observed that the threat of modernization is seriously influencing society today.

President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah on behalf of the Council expressed delight at the positive response from leadership of Parliament.

According to him, the assurances by Parliament has given his outfit the encouragement and strength to carry out their duty as agents of change.

The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost observed that most Ghanaian youth are suffering due to the pressure from the West resulting in hailing rebellion instead of finding answers to lives challenges.

Bishop Agyin Asare prayed for the three arms of government especially asking for wisdom and knowledge for them and keep them against any evil in the discharge of their duties.

He also prayed for Parliament to pass laws that would benefit the country.

The Founder of Perez Chapel International also prayed for Journalist to be circumspect in telling the Ghanaian story whiles praying for strong opposition to hold government accountable, where nobody should take citizens for granted.

The aim of the GPCC is to work towards the unity of the Church both spiritually and physically and to ride on the strength of this unity to mobilize the Church towards the evangelization and development of a peaceful, just and equitable society.
