STOP THE NONSENSE! …Chiefs Warn Afful-Broni

Very Reverend Father Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been accused of masterminding the unrest and season-of-confusion that has disrupted the peace of the University.

The frightening indictment, contained in a strong-worded statement written by the Chief of Effutu Zongo, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV, is the newest addition to a litany of accusations against the embattled Vice Chancellor, who doubles as a Catholic Priest.

“I wonder why you shamelessly indulge in such conduct when not too long ago, you and Bawa came to my Palace, pleading with me to talk to government officials to withdraw auditors from the Auditor General’s Department. If you are that clean and haven’t misappropriated state funds, why were you afraid of an audit? I recall your apprehension that should the audit continue, there will be a ‘big shame’ on your image”, the Effutu Zongo Chief, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV partly stated in his letter of accusations against Afful-Broni.

Already, Vice Chancellor Affull-Broni has been dragged to the office of the Special Prosecutor to be investigated on allegations of a misappropriated amount of GHc 5.7 million.

Even before dust settles on the supposed fraud allegation, the alumni and students of the University  have publicly insisted the Vice-Chancellor, Rev Fr Prof Anthony Afful-Broni, must either resign or get sacked for “wrongfully” dismissing some senior lecturers of the school and victimizing staff members he suspects would not bow his dictates.

Three months ago, the UEW had to be closed down temporarily following gunshots and destructive demonstrations by students of the school.

The students hit the streets to demand the immediate dismissal of the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni and the return of a number of wrongfully dismissed lecturers.

The Vice Chancellor has consistently denied all the allegations and said it is time for all parties to unite rather than apportion blame.

Below is a reproduction of the letter written by the Chief of Effutu Zongo, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV:

REV. FR. ANTHONY AFFUL BRONI (PhD)

UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, WINNEBA

P.O.BOX 25

WINNEBA

24TH JUNE, 2019.

Dear Sir,

CONDUST OF ALHASSAN SALIFU BAWA MATTERS ARRISING

I write to bring to your attention the conduct of Alhassan Salifu Bawa in writing articles against our respected Member of Parliament, Hon. Afenyo-Markin. It appears you have endorsed Bawa’s behaviour to continuously disrespect our MP. Ever since you succeeded in maligning Prof. Mawutor Avoke and thereby taking his position, UEW has not known peace.

Today, the man who out of his genuine desire to see UEW progress and assisted you to attain your current seat of honour has become your target. It is so clear that Bawa is doing your bidding the reason you haven’t found the need to discipline him much against your purported avowed principle as a disciplinarian.

I wonder why you shamelessly indulge in such conduct when not too long ago, you and Bawa came to my Palace pleading with me to talk to government officials to withdraw auditors from the Auditor General’s Department. If you are that clean and haven’t misappropriated state funds, why were you afraid of audit? I recall your apprehension that should the audit continue, there will be a ‘big shame’ on your image.

As a priest of the Catholic Church you are expected to respect all officers of the University rather than victimizing and antagonizing them. The Muslim community in Effute loves and cherishes the works  of Hon. Afenyo-Markin and will not sit down for you and your cohorts including your Bawa and Osei Barima to tarnish his image.

If you have gotten your independent candidate you are sponsoring to contest the 2020 elections, go ahead and do so with your ill-gotten wealth but not at the expense and reputation of our dear MP.

I am by this letter demanding an immediate apology and retraction of all articles written by you against the Hon. MP through Bawa and initiate disciplinary action, failing which I shall conclude that you are not worthy of the cassock you wear.

Again, I implore you to take steps to without delay, reinstate all dismissed  staffs  who have become victims of your tyranny. I have also learnt that officers you came to my Palace to allege are corrupt have been cleared by EOCO so why do they still remain dismissed and at home?

Are they less Ghanaians? How will you feel if similar decision was taken against you? I was there when the President Nana Akufo-Addo admonished you to reconcile the University. Your conduct then and now is ample proof that you are a divisionist. You are the cause of the unending instability at UEW and it is thus fair to conclude that your exit shall serve the greater good of the School and Effutu.

Suffice to add that your posture of creating misleading impression of being bullied by Hon. Afenyo-Markin is now known to all and sundry. Such baseless allegations that the MP is interfering in your administration will no more be entertained by discerning stakeholders. Your vaulting ambition has blinded you and it is time for you to be truthful.

I hope that guided by higher wisdom and true commitment to your conscience, you will depart from your vicious leadership style and pursue the path of love, fairness and justice.

Yours Truly,

SIGNED

SALAKI SULEMANA SALAGHA IV,

CHIEF OF EFFUTU ZONGO.

CC:

The Paramount Chief of Effutu

The Hon. Minister of Education

The Minister for National Security

The Chairman, National Council for Tertiary Education.
