‘Stop the Politics on GHANA CARD’ – Awulae Angama

The Omanhene of Gwira Traditional Area in the Western Region, Awulae Angama Tu-Agyan II, has appealed to Ghanaians and that of the general public to desist from politicizing everything in the country especially that of the Ghana Card introduced by President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, he gets more worried when almost everything in the country turn out to be in political stand especially that of national issues for nation development.

His comments are bound to restore calm between government and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who have previously clashed over the requirements for the Ghana Card.

The Minority in Parliament has accused government of trying to sideline the majority of Ghanaians by excluding the voter’s ID card as a one of the requirements for the registration, whiles boycotting the exercise all together.

”We should rather call for proper consultation and look at the proper measures to improve the initiative and not malign it to political stand. The Ghana card is such a great initiative and we need to all support it ” – he said.

Awulae Agyan however said, there should be amendments with the law since those in village does not have passport and birth certificate to register. He further in this interaction blamed parliament for where we are today since they accepted the law there but later turned out to criticize it as if they are not even aware of it .

”It will be right in next encounter anytime the country is coming to do such a thing they should seek opinions from those in the rural areas to avoid current confusion as is mounting in the Ghana card” – he added.

Meanwhile, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and former presidents, Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufour, have all been registered and issued their cards.

This was revealed by the Executive Director, Prof. Ken Agyeman Attafuah, when he led staff of the NIA to register and issue the Ghana card to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at his palace.

According to the NIA Boss, the Authority will find a way to register those who do not have a birth certificate or passport, which are the pre-requisites for the registration of the Ghana Card.
