Sudan Football Association President, Dr. Mutasim Jaafar, has denied reports of a dispute with Coach Kwasi Appiah over unpaid salaries.
There have been widespread claims that the Ghanaian coach, who leads Sudan’s senior national team, is unwilling to continue his job due to months of unpaid wages.
He is still in Ghana, even though Sudan has important 2026 World Cup qualifiers this month against Senegal and South Sudan.
“These claims that we owe him are not true,” Jaafar stated in an official release. “Kwasi is fully committed to his contract with the Sudanese Football Association and will join the team as scheduled.”
He explained that Appiah’s salary delay was due to banking transfer issues to Ghana but assured that the problem would be resolved soon. “We are working on fixing the payment issue in the coming hours. We need Kwasi with us to lead the national team,” he added.
Appiah has been in Ghana for several weeks, partly because of his role as a member of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee. His stay was further extended as the club mourned and buried their late supporter, Francis Frimpong Pooley, on March 6.
The former Black Stars coach led Sudan to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and is now aiming to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Sudan currently leads Group B with 10 points after four matches.
