Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has attracted interest from a new Premier League club, which has joined the race to sign the Ghanaian forward as interest in him continues to grow.
Newly promoted Sunderland are said to be keen on bringing in the 21-year-old to strengthen their attack as they aim to avoid relegation this season. The Black Cats see Fatawu as a key option for their wings, but his high price tag remains a concern. Leicester value the winger at around £30 million.
Reports suggest Sunderland already made a €32 million offer, which was turned down by the Foxes. Club officials are now considering whether to make a fresh bid, though they fear the transfer may prove too costly and difficult to finalize.
Despite the uncertainty, Sunderland’s start to life in the Premier League has been positive. They defeated West Ham 3-0 in their opening match, showing they can compete at the highest level. Still, they want reinforcements to boost their survival chances.
Sunderland, however, are not alone in chasing the Ghanaian. Everton were the first club to declare strong interest, with Sky Sports News confirming their approach. The Toffees believe they can lure Fatawu by offering him regular Premier League football, something every young player desires.
Fatawu’s journey has been impressive so far. He joined Leicester on loan from Sporting Lisbon and played a vital role in helping the Foxes win the Championship in 2024. Leicester later made his deal permanent before their return to the top flight.
Unfortunately, the winger missed much of last season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with Ghana against Angola. Before the setback, he had been one of Leicester’s standout players.
