Tamale hospital attacks: Gov’t Vow to Strengthen Security

Government has promised to strengthen higher security presence at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to avert another takeover from vigilante groups.

Northern Region Minister Salifu Saeed after a meeting Tuesday said his outfit will in the coming days put up a police post within the premises of the hospital to provide security at all times.

The initiative from government comes a day after vigilante groups said to be affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party invaded the offices of the Chief Executive Officer of the TTH, walked him out of the office after which they locked the office.

The group is accusing David Zaawumya Kolbila of mismanagement, corruption and nepotism.

According to the group, the Tamele Teaching Hospital CEO has established a number of companies which he is using to lobby for supplies from the hospital.

On Monday morning, the group in mufti locked the offices of the CEO and went away with the keys.

They are demanding the dismissal of David Zaawumya Kolbila, with a threat to return if their demands are not met. The invasion was captured in a video which has since gone viral on social media.

NPP Youth Wing Condemns the Attack

The National Youth Wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has as well condemned the pro-NPP youth groups whose members forced the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. David Kolbila, out of his office.

The Concerned NPP Youth Coalition’s spokesperson, said the CEO was incompetent and has also misused hospital funds and so they will not to allow him occupy his position.

But the NPP Youth Wing, in a statement signed by the NPP National Youth Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, said the group’s actions were criminal.

“This is a criminal matter and we consequently call on the security agencies to bring the culprits to book. They should be made to face the full rigors of the law. The Party will not condone any act of illegality that will take the shine from the good works of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

”Our checks with the Northern Regional leadership of the party reveal that they had no prior knowledge of this action and could not have sanctioned same,” the statement said.

The statement also stressed that the NPP had no knowledge of the group’s actions.
