TANKO Praises Mahama Over Ho Oxygen City Project …Calls On Partners To Help Achieve SDG Goal 11

Volta Region Council of State Member, H.E Dr. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple has praised President John Mahama over the ambitious housing project spearheaded by his government in the Volta regional capital dubbed Oxygen City.

 

“As a young scientific Socialist and Nkrumahist, I am happy H.E President John Dramani Vision aligns with Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. On that note, I would like to call on all partners all over the world to join us in building the Ho Oxygen City to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG) “Sustainable cities and communities. Mr. President, the Volta Region says thank you” he made it known in a Facebook post after the sod-cutting on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025.

The 800-unit two- and three-bedroom apartments on a 1,860 acre land is the first project of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) outside Tema since its establishment in 1952.

One would be expected to make a down payment of 25 per cent of the total cost of a unit to own one at a single digit interest and complete the payment between 15 to 20 years.

Breaking the ground for the commencement of works in Ho, President John Dramani Mahama said housing, one of the clearest measures of a society’s progress, occupies a central place in Government’s Reset Agenda.

According to Tanko, the housing project is designed to contain apartments, townhouses, service plots, commercial spaces, a golf course, and leisure facilities.

Today signified an important moment in the development trajectory of the Volta Region as I joined H.E the President, the Minister of Works and Housing and the Deputy, the Volta Regional Minister, the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Ministers and MMDCEs for the official launch of the Ho Oxygen City Project, a forward-looking urban development led by TDC Ghana Ltd.

H.E the President stated that the Ho Oxygen City, by extension Community 27 as we have in Tema, is a practical step towards advancing the long-held vision of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah for well-planned, inclusive and self-sustaining urban communities. The project reflects a renewed national commitment to orderly spatial development, decentralisation and regional economic transformation.

The project, situated on approximately 1,860 acres of land, is being delivered through a strong public-private partnership framework, ensuring sustainability, efficiency and long-term value for residents and investors alike.

Ho Oxygen City is envisioned as a modern, environmentally responsible and infrastructure-driven urban centre, with planned amenities including a Commercial and Business Street, Two-bedroom and Three-bedroom affordable apartments, Four-star Hotel facilities, a World-class Specialised Hospital, a Food and Entertainment Arena, Basic and Senior High Schools, Markets, a Shopping Mall, a Golf Course and additional State Housing supported by expanded public infrastructure.
