Tax Payers Want GRA to Open More Offices

Tax payers in the informal sector, have called for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to open more offices in the Upper East Region to make it easier to file their tax returns.

They said the situation where they had to travel long distances to Navrongo in the Kassena Nankana Municipality and Bolgatanga to pay their taxes was a huge disincentive and should not continue.

This was at a tax education forum jointly held by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the GRA at Kandiga to encourage voluntary compliance.

It brought together traders, artisans, faith-based organizations, chiefs and opinion leaders.

Mr. Robert Dampare, the Municipal NCCE Director, reminded the people that tax payment was a civic responsibility.

It was through this that the government could raise revenue to fund the construction of schools, health facilities, roads, provide good drinking water and other social services.

Every income earner was enjoined by law to declare their income honestly to the appropriate agencies and to satisfy all tax obligations.

He advised businesses to obtain taxpayer registration number (TIN) for their transactions.
