TEARS FLOW FOR WASIU

THE MORTAL remains of Abdul Wasiu, 35, the slain member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Taskforce, were interred on Wednesday, according to Muslim tradition.

There were tears all over, particularly as his body, which was draped in a white cloth, was lowered into the grave at the Tafo Muslim Cemetery.

Wasiu, it will be recalled, was shot six times in the stomach and other parts of the body by some suspected members of the Hawks, one of the deadliest vigilante groups in the NDC.

His colleague, Abdul Rahman aka ‘West’, who tried to disarm the shooter, also sustained gunshot wounds and is currently battling for his life.

There was massive security presence at the cemetery, where scores of Zongo had besieged to bid farewell to their brother.

It is believed that the presence of the fully armed military/police team prevented the aggrieved youth from avenging the murder of Wasiu, as some of his killers reportedly hail from Tafo.

The military/police team did not only block the principal streets of Tafo, but also took positions at vantage points in the town, including the cemetery area.

Prior to the burial, Muslim prayers were said for the deceased in his family house at the Sawaba Juntion in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
