Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, now self-acclaim evangelist is facing a lawsuit for allegedly performing a deliverance on a schoolgirl at a secondary school.
The actress was sued for $145,750 at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court by human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi. The lawyer filed the suit on behalf of a Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1) student from Rivers State.
Obasi said the teenage girl was subjected to what he described as a harmful religious ritual, and a video of the event was later shared online. He argued that circulating the clip without the girl’s consent violated her privacy rights under Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution and the Child Rights Act 2003.
The lawyer is asking the court to order Tonto Dikeh to pay $145,750 in damages, issue a public apology, and remove the video from all social media platforms. He also wants the court to officially declare that the act violated the girl’s constitutional right to dignity and personal privacy.
The controversy follows a video shared by Tonto Dikeh a few days ago, showing her performing a spiritual deliverance on the schoolgirl during her visit to a school in Durumi II, Abuja. As at the time of reporting, Tonto Dikeh or her management has not responsed to this. The case has since drawn attention online.
