Too Much of Energy Drink Causes Stroke

Energy drinks can give a major boost when energy is fading but as that fizzy beverage continuously hit your stomach, it does not do much for you―it is a high way to stroke.

Experts have argued that because energy drinks are intended to be drunk fast, there is an increase in heart rate, an increase in blood pressure, and evidence of increasing blood viscosity that can lead to clots forming in the heart and beyond.

According to the Post, an online newsreel, “Energy drinks force the heart to work harder to pump blood throughout the body, which can potentially lead to heart attack or stroke.”

An intracerebral haemorrhage is not the only harm caused by excessive intake of energy drinks.

Speaking on Accra-based Unique FM, Yesterday, Ophelia Nyamekye, a health expert said, abuse of the substance would also lead to a complete failure of the kidney.

According to her, excessive intake brings about dehydration which affects the capacity of the kidney to retain fluids.

This she said could lead to “…increase urination… as you are urinating and sweating you need to replace the water you are losing but many energy addicts do not take in water.”

“So, you will agree with me that there are people who are addicted to energy drinks, anytime you see them, they have a bottle of energy drink or a can of energy drink.

“That is their holy grill, that is their water, they don’t take any other fluids even if they are taking, it’s just a glass of water and they don’t finish it.

So basically, the energy drink is their water,” she explained.

The health expert further revealed that, the abuse of energy drinks could also lead to dental problems.

“High sugar levels in energy drinks can also potentially wear down the enamel of the tooth which is the protective shell of our teeth and lead to dental decay,” she revealed.
