Training of Trainers ends in Savannah Region

Training of Trainers, organized for 100 selected teachers from the seven (7) districts in the Savannah region by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) as part of the Girls-In-ICT program has ended.

The exercise is a critical activity that contributes to the sustenance of the knowledge acquired and availability of the knowledge in all schools that the teachers belong to.

The Training of Trainers began on Tuesday, 11th and ended on Saturday 15th April 2023 with excitement from participants and facilitators for successfully going the course.

The Training of Trainers was aimed at building capacity in digital literacy and to prepare them to train 1000 selected girls from the region. The event was to enable the teachers to enhance their teaching ability and empower them.

The Savannah Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah, expressed her gratitude to the Sector Minister, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP) and other organizing partners for bringing the initiative to the region, adding that it will benefit not only the participants but the entire region, improve on the lives of the children and enhance service delivery.

Hajia Katumi commended the participants for their patience and comportment exhibited throughout the training and encouraged them to continue to practice as they go back to their respective communities.

Sharing experience after, the Head of Quality Assurance who also doubles as a Lecturer at the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (KACE), Mrs. Mary Bamfo, said the exercise was interactive and successful. “The teachers demonstrated a high level of interest and enthusiasm during the exercise”

Mrs. Bamfo indicated that participants were taken through topics such as cyber security, staying safe online, basic use of computers, basic programming languages such as scratch, coding, using computer software to develop technology and apps, storytelling, animation and others.

Some participants giving their feedback on the Training of Trainers noted that the training gave them a practical experience of teaching ICT in schools, because some of them teach tech in abstract by simply demonstrating on blackboard with the hope that the children will grasp it with their imagination.

Madam Grace Matey, who is a teacher at Kufusi D/A in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district, said she has been inspired and motivated.

“I believe that with the practical skills I have acquired I will be able to teach smartly and effectively. I am confident that more female teachers will be motivated to take up ICT courses and careers. I am happy because I can now use computer programming to develop apps, games and most importantly the training has enhanced my critical and logical reasoning”.

Mr. Samuel, a teacher from Central Gonja, mentioned “Being part of this program has been a wonderful experience. I was so excited when I heard about the program. I knew I was going to learn a lot of things in ICT. I have learnt how to code using scratch applications; I have also learnt various ways I will teach scratch applications to my students”.
