Former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington knows the exact location of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and could eliminate him, but is holding back for now to avoid further conflict and protect civilians.
In a post shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there . We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.”
He added that the U.S. does not want missiles launched at civilians or American soldiers, though he warned that America’s patience is “wearing thin.”
Trump’s comments come in the midst of growing tension in the Middle East, especially between Israel and Iran. In another message, he declared “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER,” after stating that the U.S. now has “complete and total control of the skies over Iran.”
Trump went on to boast about America’s superior military technology. “Iran had good sky trackers and other defensive equipment, and plenty of it, but it doesn’t compare to American-made, conceived, and manufactured ‘stuff.’ Nobody does it better than the good ol’ USA,” he said.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance supported Trump’s stance in a separate message. He said the President “may decide he needs to take further action” to end Iran’s uranium enrichment program, which Vance claims has exceeded levels necessary for civilian use. He praised Trump’s restraint so far, saying the focus remains on protecting American people and troops.
Vance criticized Iran for violating its nuclear agreements and stressed that Trump will only use military power to achieve objectives that benefit Americans.
Tensions rose further when Trump advised civilians to “immediately evacuate Tehran,” shortly after Israel issued a warning to residents in the north-eastern part of the city. Many civilians in Iran expressed frustration and confusion about the warning. One resident told BBC Persian, “What do they mean by ‘evacuate the city immediately’? Is that even possible? Where should we go?”
Another woman said she hadn’t heard from her parents in three days due to poor internet connectivity. “Every time there’s an attack, it feels like life and death,” she said. A medical student in Europe added, “The worry about our families’ safety is what’s killing us… If Iran’s airspace wasn’t closed, many of us would have already returned by now.”
Many ordinary Iranians, especially the youth, say they don’t support the war and see it as a conflict caused by their government. There have been reports of Iranian security forces arresting people for mocking the military online. A father in Tehran said his teenage son was detained just for posting a meme and was only released after the father pleaded with authorities.
Meanwhile, Israel has been carrying out airstrikes targeting Iran’s military infrastructure. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stated that Israel’s goal is not regime change, but rather to damage Iran’s nuclear facilities, missile capabilities, and plans to destroy Israel. “We still have targets,” Sa’ar said, confirming that Israeli jets have air superiority over Iran.
He outlined three main objectives: to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, cripple its missile systems, and stop any threat to Israel’s existence.
As the situation escalates, there are fears that the conflict could spread further, with major consequences for the region and beyond.
