TTH Chases Fraudsters

The management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has intensified its security surveillance as part of efforts to protect clients from fraudsters.

It has become necessary due to several cases of fraudulent activities in the hospital.

The fraudsters disguise themselves as staff of the hospital and swindle patients in the surgery, pathology and the maternity wards.

Memos cited by Class FM’s Northern regional correspondent Mohammed Gadafi, gave a stern warning to staff members to desist from demanding unapproved charges.

The Public Relations Officer of TTH, Dr. Ken Osei Mensah further explained to Class News that the management of the hospital has initiated measures to curb misconduct at the hospital.

He disclosed that so far, one person identified as Abdulai Abdul Somed, who was posing as a staff of the hospital, was recently arrested by the police at the laboratory as a result of the tight security arrangements put in place.

Dr. Mensah mentioned that a senior nurse has also been handed over to the police for allegedly defrauding clients.

Class News understands that a senior Radiographer at the Radiology Department was found guilty of taking money from a client without issuing a receipt.

This compelled the management to deny him a promotion.

The PRO said that the management has begun issuing unique identification cards to all staff members at the facility to ensure easy identification.

He advised the clients to use the two approved complaint units at the general Out-Patients Department (OPD) and the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBS/GYN) bloc, to lodge complaints of suspected cases of fraud and extortion.

“Management of the hospital is also seriously looking at implementing intramural practices at the hospital to serve as a form of motivation for members of staff in order to discourage them from engaging in such cases of illegal charges and extortion,” he noted.
