Two Arrested For Murder Over Fraud Cash Dispute

A disagreement over alleged internet fraud proceeds has ended in the horrific murder of a Nigerian man in Tamale, with two suspects, Nigerian nationals, arrested while trying to allegedly flee to neighbouring Togo.

The victim, 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, was found brutally murdered in his bedroom at Sanzirigu on Saturday, July 11. He had suffered a deep cut to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth and his room ransacked.

Acting on intelligence, the Northern Regional Police Command tracked down and arrested Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa at Tatale near the Ghana-Togo border before they could allegedly escape the country.

In a statement, the Police said preliminary investigations revealed the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.

The investigators revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation that they conspired to kill their housemate following a bitter dispute over proceeds from alleged internet fraud activities.

The police recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the savage attack, together with several items allegedly stolen from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing and personal documents.

The victim’s body was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead before it was deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy.

The two suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear before a Tamale court on Monday, July 13.

The police said forensic examinations were ongoing as investigators work to retrieve CCTV footage and unravel every detail surrounding the shocking killing.

The Northern Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to volunteer credible information, assuring that everyone connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
