UNAG Congratulates Akufo-Addo for Appointment of Martin Amidu

The United Nations Association of Ghana (UNAG) has commended the exemplary interface among the citizenry, the judiciary and the executive arm of government in deepening good governance and systematic confidence between the ruler and the ruled in Ghana.

UNAG observed that governments would be installed in office and same would exit the system, but there were permanent public or state institutions which were potent enough to either make or mar governance, and hence must remain credible. The fairness of these institutions, however, has the tendency to impact positively on the government of the day in the national interest.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Directorate of Communications and International Relations and by the Director, Dr Mark Lamptey, last Monday.

The release commended the Attorney General for exhibiting a high sense of objectivity and fairness in settling on Mr Martin Amidu as the preferred nominee in Ghana’s search for a Special Prosecutor.

UNAG applauded the show of statesmanship by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the appointment of Mr Amidu, and described his subsequent announcement as clear evidence that Ghana had really come of age in political tolerance.

That, the release said, was a feather in the cup of the executive arm of government.

The association noted that Ghana had consistently made indelible marks on its political landscape which were worthy of acclamation; and admonished state institutions to continue to maintain their sense of duty.

UNAG also paid compliments to Mr Amidu for the respect that he had earned for himself by relentlessly exuding a high sense of integrity, adding that his consistent standpoint over the years had shown that there was much to gain from self- conviction in honesty and in the pursuit of justice delivery.

The release added that that should be emulated by all citizens.

The UNAG also called on the international community to support Ghana in its quest to advance its democracy and resuscitate its economy.
