Unauthorized Lumba T-Shirts Banned, One-Week Rites Set for August 30

The family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, has issued a strong warning to fan clubs and individuals producing T-shirts and other items with his name or image without their approval.

They say such actions are illegal and will not be tolerated.

In a video shared by Gossip24 TV on August 5, 2025, the head of the family expressed concern about some fan groups printing and selling merchandise using Daddy Lumba’s image without informing or seeking permission from the family.

“Some fan clubs are making T-shirts without our knowledge. This is not allowed. Anyone who continues doing this without informing the family will face legal consequences,” the family head stated firmly.

He emphasized that all activities involving Daddy Lumba’s name, especially merchandise and public tributes, must receive the family’s approval first. This, he explained, is to protect the late musician’s legacy and ensure that everything done in his name is carried out with respect and dignity.

The family also took the opportunity to caution religious leaders, including priests and prophets, who have been making public comments about Daddy Lumba. They urged them to be careful with their words, especially during this difficult time.

“Whether you are a prophet or a priest, we ask you to be honest and respectful. Our focus now is to give him a proper burial, so please avoid saying things that might bring confusion or controversy,” the family head added.

As part of the arrangements for Daddy Lumba’s final farewell, the family announced that the one-week observation will take place on Friday, August 30, 2025, in Accra. However, the specific venue will be shared at a later date.

A Facebook post by DL106.9 FM also revealed that the main funeral ceremony will be held in Kumasi.

According to the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta, represented by Abusuapanyin, these plans were made after consulting with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to officially inform him of Daddy Lumba’s passing and seek his guidance.

“We ask everyone attending the one-week observation to behave well. Let’s come together in peace and respect to honour the memory of Kwadwo Fosu,” the family pleaded.

Ahead of the observance, the family, together with the Creative Arts Agency, organized a candlelight vigil on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.

The event was attended by thousands of Ghanaians who gathered to mourn and pay tribute to the beloved highlife musician, also known by his real name, Charles Kwadwo Fosu.

The air was filled with sorrow and admiration as fans held candles and sang some of his greatest hits in memory of his powerful legacy.

Daddy Lumba sadly passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
