The Dean of Students of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), Dr. Ike Tandoh, together with the Dean’s Secretary, Madam Grace, and two Level 300 students John Anitei and Clarissa Bandoh, embarked on a hostel tour on Wednesday October 8, 2025 to visit and interact with private hostel owners who provide accommodation for UniMAC students.
The visit formed part of the Dean of Students’ continuous efforts to build stronger relationships between the university and hostel managements, as well as to address key issues affecting students’ welfare.
Speaking during the visits, Dr. Tandoh explained that the purpose of the exercise was to create a mutual understanding and partnership between UniMAC and hostel owners. According to him, such collaborations will help ensure that students live in a safe, comfortable, and affordable environment that supports their academic work.
He further noted that many students live in private hostels, which makes it important for the university to maintain close communication with hostel managers to discuss concerns such as security, maintenance, water supply, and pricing.
“Our goal is to make sure that students are comfortable wherever they stay. When they feel safe and supported, they can focus better on their studies,” Dr. Tandoh said.
During the meeting, the Dean and his team engaged hostel owners in open discussions about the challenges they face and how the university can work together with them to find practical solutions. One of the major topics discussed was hostel pricing, as many students have raised concerns about the increasing cost of accommodation.
Dr. Tandoh encouraged hostel owners to review their prices and consider the financial challenges students are currently facing. He also assured them that the university will continue to cooperate with them to maintain discipline and promote a healthy relationship between students and hostel managers.
The visit was described as successful and fruitful, with hostel owners expressing appreciation for the Dean’s initiative. They commended the university’s leadership for taking interest in the living conditions of students outside campus and pledged their commitment to strengthening collaboration with UniMAC.
The Dean’s Secretary, Madam Grace, also highlighted that this engagement will help the Dean’s Office respond more effectively to students’ accommodation complaints and needs.
One of the student representatives John Anitei who joined the tour said the initiative gave them hope that students’ concerns are being heard and addressed at the highest level of the university.
The Dean of Students Office has promised to continue such visits regularly as part of its ongoing efforts to promote student welfare and build a more supportive learning environment across all UniMAC campuses.
