Upper West: Fire Guts Over 60 SADA Tricycles

Parts of about 60 un-assembled tricycle motorbikes belonging to the defunct Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) have been gutted by fire in Wa.

The inferno which started at about 12:30 yesterday afternoon occurred at the Upper West regional warehouse of the Public Works Department (PWD).

It took the timely intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to prevent the fire from ravaging the over 160 tricycles that were brought by SADA for assembling.

The acting Upper West regional engineer of the PWD, Phobi Otchere Collins, narrating the incident to Citi news explained that about 60 out of a total 120 tricycles brought in to be assembled were caught in the fire.

“We had a fire outbreak that affected parts of our warehouse this afternoon, burning parts of about 60 out of a total of 120 tricycles that were brought here about two weeks ago for assembling. As you can see, the engines and all other parts are safe in the other warehouse except the buckets of between 50 to 60 that were torched. An initial 40 tricycles that were brought earlier for assembling are all completed and put under safe keeping”.

The deputy Upper regional fire commander, Eugene Asa-Gyekye who led the team of fire service personnel to the scene could not immediately tell the cause of the inferno.

He cautioned residents in the region to be wary in their use of fire as the harmattan season arrives.
