The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has assured that the government’s flagship Women’s Development Bank will soon be launched to provide women with improved access to finance and business resources.
She made the announcement on Saturday, April 4, 2026, during a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Anlo, Torgbui Sri III, ahead of the Norvikporhbe Za Festival.
“I want to assure you that we’ve made a lot of progress in establishing the Women’s Development Bank, and that very, very soon you’ll hear from us. We really needed to take our time because this is something that is very, very important. Therefore, rushing into it didn’t help us,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that careful planning was necessary to ensure the bank effectively meets the financial and business needs of women across the country.
During the visit, the Vice President also pledged government support to improve education and services for children with special needs in the Anlo Traditional Area, following appeals from local authorities.
“Equally important are the children who are born differently or who have different ways of learning and of doing things. They are all our children, and these I always describe as God’s special creation.
“There’s a reason why they are here. Our business is to learn to live with them and to give them what they need to be able to function like all of us in different ways,” she said.
She added that training personnel, including teachers and healthcare workers, is critical to ensure children with disabilities receive proper support.
“So I hear you on the importance of school for the deaf or for the blind. We need to begin training the personnel so that some may be in the hospital and they don’t even know what to say, how to say it, even for the nurses to understand what the issues are in order to help them,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.
