”We Are Suffering” – Residents Lament Over Bad Roads

Residents of certain parts of the country are lamenting over the deplorable nature of roads in the country that is increasingly becoming a worry.

Inhabitants say they are frustrated over the bad roads in their communities which are serving as a hindrance to their agricultural production, health care delivery and other economic activities.

In an interview On Citi News a resident in the Bawku township in the Northern part of Ghana said, there is no single road functioning in Bawku indicating that, it seems inhabitants from that part are not part of Ghana.

He disclosed that ”All roads are in a deplorable state, modernization of agriculture would not yield the needed results if food produced in rural communities were left to rot due to poor roads”.

The concerned resident added that “peasant farmers were laboring to profit middlemen but they themselves are rather poor because they were unable to transport their produce to marketing centers”.

Ato, a driver and resident of Afienya also said “We are really struggling with our roads. As a community, we have to contribute for over 30 tons of laterite soil to fill the potholes.

”We were able to get the Roads and Highway Authority, the Minister for Roads coming in, they visited the area and started the project somewhere early part of the year, but presently the contractor is not coming any longer so the project has been abandoned”.

He added that “Am an uber driver when I go to certain areas and compare to mine, I cry. Almost everytime I have a problem with my car. We need the government to do something, we need them to work for us, we are their people”.
