West Ham United have dismissed head coach Nuno Espirito Santo following a disappointing start to their EFL Championship campaign.
The decision comes after the team suffered two straight home defeats, leaving them eighth on the league table, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough.
The Hammers first lost 3-2 to Southampton before suffering another defeat, this time a 3-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. The results raised concerns among the club’s management about the team’s performance and its chances of returning to the Premier League.
In a statement, West Ham said the decision to change the coach was necessary to help the club stay on course and meet its targets.
Nuno’s departure also means assistant coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have left their roles.
The Portuguese manager joined West Ham in September 2025, replacing Graham Potter. However, he could not prevent the club from being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2025/26 season.
He remained in charge after the club dropped to the Championship but has now been sacked just 13 matches into the new campaign.
Former club captain Mark Noble will work with Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville to manage the team temporarily. They will prepare the players for Wednesday’s away match against Cardiff City while West Ham look for a new head coach.
