Who Is Who In Ashanti NPP Primaries?

On Saturday April 25, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be having an acclamation for its 2020 Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and also parliamentary primaries across constituencies the party has sitting Parliamentarians.

The Ashanti Region being the party’s ‘world bank’ for votes, The New Publisher takes a look at which candidates would be going for the parliamentary primaries constituency by constituency.

In 14 constituencies, the incumbent MPs would only be going for acclamation because they do not have challengers.

The 14 include Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’ the Manhyia South MP, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, MP for Suame Constituency, who doubles as the Majority Leader in Parliament, Francisca Oteng Mensah from Kwabre East, William Owuraku Aidoo from Affigya Kwabre South and others.

9 Disqualified

The Vetting Committee, headed NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, after the vetting process, disqualified nine aspirants out of 121 for various legitimate reasons, a press statement issued by the party indicated.

Signed by Sam Pyne, the NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary, the party said a total of 106, out of the 121 aspirants, made up of twelve females and 94 males, were cleared by the committee to contest in the polls.

The ruling political party also announced that “five aspiring candidates, voluntarily withdrew from the contest, which is scheduled for April 25, 2020, adding that the vetting process was generally peaceful.

“Out of the 121 aspiring candidates, 106, comprising 12 females and 94 males, have been recommended to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for consideration”, part of the press statement indicated.

It further added that “five aspiring candidates voluntarily withdrew from the contest; 9 aspiring candidates have not been recommended for various legitimate reasons; 14 aspiring candidates are going unopposed”.
