Residents of Ekumfi Asaman in the Central Region have been left horrified after a 40-year-old woman allegedly butchered her husband to death following a bitter dispute over money from their charcoal business.
The deceased, identified as Kweku Blankson, was reportedly killed by his wife, Auntie Esi, last Wednesday after tensions escalated between the couple over proceeds from the sale of charcoal they produced together.
According to sources in the community, the husband and wife, who were known as farmers and charcoal producers, had been arguing for days after the woman accused her husband of hiding part of the money from their latest charcoal sales.
The disagreement reportedly turned violent when the couple engaged in a heated confrontation, during which the husband allegedly assaulted the wife.
Neighbours believed the matter had ended after the fight, but tragedy struck later in the night while Mr Blankson was asleep.
An eyewitness, Isaac Panyin Mensah, who narrated the chilling incident to a news reporter said, “While the man was asleep, the woman went to the kitchen, picked up a sharpened cutlass belonging to the husband and began butchering him.”
The victim suffered multiple deep cutlass wounds and screamed for help, attracting neighbours to the scene. Residents rushed in and found him lying in a pool of blood.
Mr Blankson was immediately taken to the Mankessim Hospital but was later referred to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital due to the severity of his injuries and excessive blood loss.
But sadly, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The body has since been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
