Wolves have sacked head coach Vitor Pereira after failing to win any of their 10 Premier League games this season.
A 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Saturday marked Wolves’ eighth loss of the campaign, leaving them bottom of the table and eight points from safety. Pereira, who took charge in December 2024, signed a new three-year deal in September but has now been dismissed after a poor run of results.
Tensions between the manager and supporters grew last week after Wolves’ 3-2 loss to Burnley, when Pereira was escorted away following heated exchanges with fans at Molineux.
In a club statement, Wolves confirmed that all eight members of Pereira’s backroom staff have also left. “Results and performances this term has fallen below acceptable standards and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary,” the statement read.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi said: “Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful. Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.”
The club announced that under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 coach Richard Walker will handle training sessions while Wolves look for a new first-team head coach.
Reacting to his dismissal, Pereira said: “It has been a privilege to manage Wolverhampton Wanderers and experience unique moments with this club and its supporters. I would like to thank the club’s owners for their trust, the players for their hard work and commitment over these months, and all the staff for making me feel part of the family. I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season.”
Although Wolves performed better in cup competitions, defeating West Ham and Everton in the Carabao Cup, they were eliminated in the last 16 by Chelsea on Wednesday October, 29.
BBC Sport reports that Pereira was informed of his dismissal on Sunday morning, and the club will not pay out his full contract. It is also understood that he regrets not leaving before the start of the season.
When Pereira replaced Gary O’Neil last December, Wolves were 19th but he managed to keep them in the Premier League, finishing 16th. However, the team lost several key players during the summer, including Matheus Cunha to Manchester United for £62.5 million, Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City for £31 million, and captain Nelson Semedo, who joined Fenerbahce after his contract expired.
Transfer speculation surrounding striker Jorgen Strand Larsen also added to the club’s early-season struggles, while six new signings failed to make an immediate impact.
Fans’ frustration has grown in recent weeks, with chants directed not only at Pereira but also at Jeff Shi and the club’s Chinese owners, Fosun.
Wolves’ poor form this season includes losses to all three promoted sides, Leeds, Sunderland, and Burnley, and only two points earned from draws against Tottenham and Brighton. After the Fulham defeat, Pereira admitted it was “maybe the worst performance for my team.”
