Wontumi Drags Mahama to Court Over 2020 Presidential Bid

FORMER PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama’s hankering of becoming Ghana’s president once more seems to be facing stiff opposition as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka ‘Wontumi’ has vowed to stop him.

Wontumi is of the opinion that Mr. Mahama had already served two terms as president and had no right to contest again.

Mr. Mahama was in 2012 sworn into office as president to continue the term of the late President Atta Mills, who died in office. He was president for about seven months before going ahead to win the 2012 polls for a full four-year term.

According to Wontumi’s argument, Mahama had already served his mandated two terms.

He also argued that Mr. Mahama had enjoyed the benefits of a former president from the state, and therefore cannot contest for president again.

He vowed to seek legal interpretation to determine whether the former president is eligible to contest for president again.

Reports say he had already written an open letter to Parliament and the Judiciary over the matter.
