Tunisian Football Federation has appointed Hervé Renard as their new head coach for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after dismissing Sabri Lamouchi.
The federation confirmed the former Saudi Arabia manager will lead the team until the end of the tournament.
Renard brings strong international experience, having guided Morocco at the 2018 World Cup in their first appearance since 1998 and led Saudi Arabia to a shock win over Argentina in 2022.
He also coached France during the 2023 Women’s World Cup reaching the quarter-finals.
His appointment follows Lamouchi’s dismissal after Tunisia lost 5-1 to Sweden on June 15, 2026.
The team struggled throughout the match, failing to find rhythm and suffering a heavy defeat.
Under Lamouchi, Tunisia played five games, scoring one goal, with one win, one draw, and three defeats, conceding 11 goals.
After the first round in Group F, Sweden leads with three points.
Japan and Netherlands have one point each after their 1-1 draw, while Tunisia is bottom with zero points.
Renard is expected to quickly rebuild the squad and restore confidence as Tunisia prepares for remaining group matches, with hopes of improving results and advancing further in the tournament despite a difficult start and heavy criticism from fans and analysts across international football ahead of crucial fixtures ahead in the coming weeks and months to follow.
