Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Chad on March 17th, 2025, will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.
This marks the stadium’s return as the main venue for international matches after years of being overlooked.
According to Joy Sports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided not to submit any other stadiums for inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This decision follows CAF’s withdrawal of approval for major venues like the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium.
The Accra Sports Stadium was closed for three months after hosting Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Niger in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier in November 2024. During this period, the National Sports Authority (NSA) worked with Green Grass Technology to restore the pitch and improve the stadium’s facilities.
Their efforts led to CAF granting conditional approval for the venue to host international matches again.
For many years, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was Ghana’s main home ground. However, in September 2024, CAF ruled it unfit for international games due to “technical infractions, including a poor playing field.” This left the GFA with no choice but to find a new venue.
