Aduana, Kotoko in Dicey Affair

The Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi will tomorrow afternoon be the centre of attraction when Ghana Premier League champions, Aduana Stars, clash with MTN FA Cup holders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, in a battle to determine the top club traditionally known as the ‘Champion of Champions’ in Ghana football.

Tomorrow’s FA Super Cup, therefore, promises to be fiercely contested by the two sides who are also Ghana’s representatives in continental competition this year and are due to commence their respective CAF campaigns next month. Thus, tomorrow’s game presents a good opportunity to test their battle readiness of Aduana and Kotoko for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions respectively.

This year, the two sides have met once, with the Porcupine Warriors silencing the league champions 2-0 in a group game of the just-ended GHALCA G8 tournament. And for Aduana, tomorrow is a fine opportunity like this to prove sceptics wrong by defeating Kotoko to win the Super Cup.

Aduana Stars have maintained their title-winning squad with a few additions, including Hafiz Adams from Wa All Stars, who is expected to team up with old guards goalkeeper Joseph Addo, Noah Martey, Derek Sasraku and their captain, Emmanuel Akuoko, to prove a point tomorrow that they are ready for both the title defence and CAF campaign.

With Kotoko fans already on their heels to improve their performance, Coach Steve Polack and his charges know the importance of winning the Super Cup and how it will greatly enhance their self-belief for the season and win back the support of their followers. Winning the Super Cup will give their fans bragging right and send a strong signal to rival clubs about their ambitions for the season.

Polack will miss striker Sadick Adams to injury but has at his disposal some tried-and- tested-players such as captain Amos Frimpong and Obed Owusu, and enterprising youngsters comprising Eric Donkor, Ahmed Adams, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi, Emmanuel Gyamfi, newly signed Frederick Boateng and Obed Owu to make a strong claim for the Super Cup.
