Afenyo-Markin Goes Unopposed …Effutu Thanks Him With Acclamation

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region has had a walk-in-the-park in his quest to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Not a single soul in the constituency picked nomination forms or even expressed interest, directly or indirectly to challenge Afenyo-Markin at what was supposed to the NPP Effutu parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday January 27.

In the absence of any contender, Afenyo-Markin, would not face any elections or contest on January 27. Rather, his candidacy would rather be endorsed through a popular acclamation by the Effutu NPP Extraordinary Delegates Conference on the said date.

Information from the constituency suggests that the Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference, Patrons, Executive Leaders, stakeholders and entire members of the NPP in the Effutu Constituency would use Saturday’s acclamation of Afenyo-Markin as a statement of gratitude and honour to him for his selfless leadership and enviable triumphs in developing Effutu.

Afenyo-Markin, after contesting the 2012 parliamentary primaries with a Cabinet Minister and winning, to represent the NPP, went ahead and defeated the National Democratic Congress (NDC)s Mike Hammah in the 2012 parliamentary election

He has consistently increased the party’s votes and transformed the Effutu Constituency from a pro-NDC one into one of the safest NPP seats in the Central Region.

Evidence of Afenyo-Markin’s achievements as a Member of Parliament abound all across the constituency and have impacted all sectors including rural roads expansion, building and equipping of clinics and health centers, boosting of the tourism drive and economic expansion, construction of community centers, educational facilities, libraries, sponsoring of hundreds of students at the university level both in Ghana and beyond, building of police stations, building of community modern rest rooms, wooing of investors to the constituency to invest into factories and real estates and a tall list.

Afenyo-Markin, according to the Ghana Library Authority has built for Effutu the highest number of libraries than any other constituency in the country. He personally funded the construction and furnishing of 13 ultra modern libraries in Effutu alone.

Effutu, as a constituency, arguably has constructed the highest number of health centers in Ghana within a period of 8 years. In total, the Constituency boasts of some 21 health facilities.

In the areas of job creation, Afenyo-Markin has not only provided seed capital for hundreds of small scale businesses but has as well provided equipment and tools for hundreds of persons who graduated in vocational and technical training institutes to start up their businesses.

Perhaps one aspect that needs improvement is that a majority of persons who were given loans to start up businesses never repaid and about 150 individual drivers that were given brand new vehicles to run as a commercial ventures so they repay the cost of the car without interest never bothered to repay a dime.

On the Floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin has made Effutu a household name through his advocacy, rich contributions to debates and frequent meaningful statements.

He is in leadership in Parliament and currently the Deputy Majority Leader.

As part of his usual support for the Effutu Constituency, Afenyo-Markin on Wednesday visited the Winneba Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) where he provided modern office equipment and logistics to make them deliver diligently in their work duty.

Same Wednesday, he was at the Winneba Secondary School where he donated about 300 dormitory bunk beds to the school.

Previously, he had constructed an ultra-modern Assembly Hall, Girls Dormitory, Twelve Units Toilet facilities, Six Unit Classroom Block, for the Winneba Secondary School.

In September last year, Afenyo-Markin committed an amount of one million cedis to support Mumbies Foundation, a non-governmental organization, to fight hepatitis B in the Effutu Constituency.

The project, dubbed HepaGuard, is aimed at protecting liver health, raising awareness, and making a lasting impression in the Effutu Municipality and beyond. It is solely being funded by Afenyo-Markin with the aim of dealing with the widespread virus
