Afoko Submits Nomination Papers for NPP Chairmanship Bid Tomorrow

Paul Awentami Afoko, the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is due to file his nomination forms at the party’s Accra headquarters on Tuesday.

The move, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday August 25, 2026, is a procedural requirement rather than a fresh declaration of his candidacy, which he first announced in July.

Paul Afoko collected his forms when the window opened on 18 August. Tuesday’s submission falls within an extended deadline, after the party’s National Officers Elections Committee pushed back the cut-off from 27 August to 29 August, citing high demand from aspirants across various national positions.

He will not be running unopposed.

His campaign is built on what he terms the “3R Agenda” – Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture – arguing that healing internal fractures and strengthening the party’s structures must take priority ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

Since launching his bid, Paul Afoko has been touring several regions, engaging delegates and grassroots supporters with a message of reconciliation and unity, as the party looks to bounce back from its 2024 election defeat.

Tuesday’s filing officially places him on the NPP’s electoral timetable. Vetting is scheduled from  August 31, to  September 3, with results due on 5 September. Appeals will be heard on 6 and 7 September, before delegates cast their votes on 3 October 2026.
