Agya Koo Starts New Political Party, ‘Ghana First Party’

Renowned Kumawood actor Alexander Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has officially launched his new political party, the Ghana First Party, with a large street procession in Accra.

On April 20, 2026, Agya Koo led hundreds of supporters through the streets of the capital city in a vibrant launch event.

Viral videos circulating on social media showed the actor moving with bodyguards as he led the crowd from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Tesano. The procession attracted attention as supporters filled the streets in white T-shirts printed with the party’s logo.

The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with supporters singing, chanting, and celebrating the official unveiling of the new political movement. Many onlookers stopped to watch the unusual political gathering in the city.

Agya Koo first announced the Ghana First Party, also known as The Base Movement, on April 11, 2026. He described it as a third force intended to challenge the long-standing political dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which have controlled Ghana’s political space for decades.

He later arrived in Accra on April 17, 2026, to begin the official registration process for the party ahead of its formal launch activities.

According to Agya Koo, the Ghana First Party will focus on addressing the everyday concerns of Ghanaians, especially traders, while also promoting tourism and national development. He believes the new movement can bring fresh ideas into the country’s political system.

However, the launch has also generated public discussion due to Agya Koo’s known history as a strong supporter of the NPP in the past.
