Agya Kwabena Fetes ‘Kayayei’

Agya Kwabena, ace broadcaster of the Despite Group of Companies on Friday gave back to society when he fed over seven hundred head porters and their children at the Mallam Attah market in Accra.

The gesture he said was to put some smiles on the faces of the head porters popularly known as ‘kayayei’ and the less privileged in the community.

He noted that it was necessary to offer assistance to the poor and needy especially women and children in the society explanatining that the head porters most of whom are below 10 years could not be blamed for the situation they found themselves.

The Peace FM/UTV news Anchor known in private life as Edward Kwabena Kwarteng Kekih disclosed that the event which coincided with this year’s Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration would be replicated in other parts of the country.

He disclosed that plans are afoot to register the head porters for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for free to enable them access healthcare.

The Peace FM/UTV news Anchor further indicated that mattresses and mosquito nets would also be procured and distributed to the porters.

This he said is expected to end the era where head porters and their children while sleeping on the bare floors are also exposed to mosquitoes.

Dr. Nana Ama Adibo, a General Physician at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital tasked the head porters to take their health matters seriously.

She said there was the need for the head porters to take care of their children in order to make them beneficial to society.

Dr. Edward Appah also a General Physician at the hospital reminded the porters on the dangers of improperly hand washing.
