‘Angry’ Otumfuo Sacks 2 Chiefs …Fear % Panic Grip Others

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in less than two weeks, has distooled two Chies in Asanteman.

Otunfuo has distooled the Chief of Ahenkro, near Offinso, Nana Ahenkro Sei Ababio III. He was said to have showed an unacceptable disrespect to the King by disobeying orders on how chiefs under Asanteman should handle chieftaincy and land related disputes.

Before the dismissal of the Chief of Ahenkro, the Asafohene and Head of the Akwamu Division, Akyamfuo Kwame Akowuah, had also been distooled for flouting traditional laws and the Great Oath of Asanteman
Chiefs Panic

The unexpected sacking of the two top chiefs is said to have sparked fear and panic among the rest of the traditional leaders in the Asante Kingdom.

The chiefs, according to reports, are aware that the Asantehene is not ready to tolerate any unpardonable acts by traditional leaders under Asanteman.

At a Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) sitting at the Manhyia Palace last week, Otumfuo destooled the Asafohene, who openly looked dejected during a meeting of chiefs.

Otumfuo, who was looking angry, accused Acheamfuor Kwame Akowuah of indulging in rampant sale of lands and also disrespecting his elders and the Great Oath of Asanteman.

Acheamfuor Kwame Akowuah was virtually on his knees, in a last minute attempt to save his stool, but the Asantehene would not take any of his apologies.

Ahenkro Chief’s Destoolment

On the part of the Ahenkro Chief, he was ousted by Otumfuo because he defied the King’s order for chiefs not to take land and chieftaincy issues to court.

Nana Ahenkro Sei Ababio III was again accused of acting as if he was his own overlord, a weird action, considered as a big offense in Asanteman.

The Asanteman Council is the highest traditional authority in Asante and has been in existence for over three hundred years since the foundation of the Asante Kingdom (Asanteman) by Opemsuo Osei Tutu I, Asantehene, and his Priest Counsellor, Okomfo Anokye.
