Ashanti NPP Picks Wontumi’s Successor on August 15

THE ASHANTI Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) will elect its new regional executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years on August 15, 2026.

Among the positions to be contested on that day is the regional chairman’s position, currently held by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as ‘Wontumi’.

Wontumi, who has served as Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman for three consecutive terms, has decided not to contest this time around. He is eying the National Chairman position

Rita Asobayiri, the Chairperson of the Ashanti Regional NPP Election Committee, said 34 people have been vetted and cleared to contest for various positions.

She explained that one female aspirant, “who was contesting for the deputy secretary position, decided to step down, reducing the number of aspirants from 35 to 34.”

According to her, the vetting process lasted for two days  and was very successful, proceeding without any problems.

She announced that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi has been selected as the venue for the upcoming polls, and urged party members to take note.

Rita Asobayiri admonished the 34 aspirants vying for the various regional executive positions to campaign properly, devoid of insults and insinuations.
